I have heard a rumour that Kodak will be reintroducing super8 sound again. Has anyone else heard this? Off now to check the Kodak website and phone Kodak UK. Fingers crossed!

Hi Jon,
That sounds too good to be true!
There was a company in England called Classic Home Cinema (www.tradetraffic/super8) who were going to introduce sound striped K40 loaded into russian super 8 carts. That would have been brilliant! but apprantly they only got 3 responses, but i reckon had they advertised it better it would have drawn loads more attention.
keep us posted

Here we go again.... this is the same post we've seen every few months for the past three years. Sound film isn't coming back. If you saw the reasons why it was discontinued in the first place, you would know why.

It seems my source wasn't as reliable as I first thought. Phoned Kodak and they said there were no plans to reintroduce sound film. Argh! Sorry, and if Mike can delete this post I won't be the subject of too much ridicule (Doh!).

I believe this may shed some lite on the subject: FORGET THE RUMORS. It will never happen unless there is enough demand for those willing to put the money up front to make a profit on their efforts
HOW MANY FILMMAKERS ARE WILLING TO BUY THE FILM AND AT WHAT COST?There is a real possibility that wittner in germany will produce sound striped k40
for their SPECIAL RELOADABLE AND EXPENSIVE CARTRIDGE (LIMITED NUMBER AVAILABLE)
(APPROXIMATELY $1500 each).UNLESS A FILMMAKER CAN SUPPORT THAT TYPE OF INVESTMENT BY MAKING $$$$$$$$ WITH THE FILM HE PURCHASES AND SHOOTS IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN!

The facts: sound film IS available on 200' spools from Wittner or Bavaria in Germany. Its made for the SD8/60 200' magazines used on modified Beaulieus (6-7-9008 models). You could cut the film into 4 50 stripes and reload youself into K40 sound cartridges. Dwaynes will return empty cartridges if you ask them. This is doable for someone with enough drive. At this point though its still cheaper and easier to just buy old stock that shows up.

it's better and cheaper to shoot double system. although, i would buy 50ft sound carts if it was available.
